Meta is said to be reducing its workforce by 10%, impacting approximately 8,000 employees

Meta has announced additional layoffs as it reallocates funding towards artificial intelligence initiatives.
According to a memo seen by Bloomberg, around 8,000 jobs, or 10% of the company’s workforce, will be affected, though specific departments remain unspecified.
An official confirmed these measures to BBC News but offered no further details.
Employees were briefed about the situation on April 23, with official notices for those impacted to be issued next month. Additionally, Meta plans to withdraw 6,000 current job vacancies.
Meta’s chief people officer, Janelle Gale, expressed, "Ordinarily, we'd finalize details before sharing widely, but since it's already out, I'm sharing what I can."
She added, "This decision, while difficult and unsettling, is necessary as we aim to proceed efficiently, enabling us to support other upcoming investments. Regretfully, this means parting with valued contributors to Meta."
This recent job reduction comes after a previous series of layoffs in March affecting 700 roles, including those at the Reality Labs VR division.
Earlier in the year, the company cut 10% of its staff in Reality Labs, leading to the shutdown of three VR studios.
