The Ivors Academy is launching an event specifically to honor composers, with a focus on those in the gaming industry.

The upcoming Ivors Composer Awards aims to acknowledge musical works from video games, as well as those from films, television, live shows, and commercial recordings, created by composers from Britain, Ireland, or residing in the UK.

Starting on June 1, 2026, submissions from artists for this award will be accepted, and the winners will be honored with an Ivor Novello Award.

Recognizing video game music has been a tradition at The Ivors Academy since Killzone 2 was awarded the first such honor in this category at the Ivor Novello Awards in 2010.

Other games that have received accolades include Horizon Zero Dawn, Sea of Thieves, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, and Farewell North.

According to Ivors Academy CEO Robert Neri, "Introducing a dedicated Ivor Novello Awards ceremony for composers marks the culmination of 71 years committed to supporting compositional brilliance."

Neri further stated, "Since 1956, our focus has been on honoring exceptional composers. This new ceremony is a way to expand that tradition, offering a prestigious opportunity to pay tribute to their work."

He emphasized the expansion of recognition to cover a wider array of modern compositions, making more original music eligible, spanning various formats such as stage performances, films, video games, streaming, radio, and festivals.

The Ivors Composer Awards, an annual celebration of music craftsmanship, aims to grant composers the acknowledgment they truly deserve.

The awards will be hosted at Grosvenor House in London on November 17, 2026, as part of The Ivors Composer Week, scheduled from November 16 to 20.
