In Indonesia, thousands of bank accounts have been frozen due to online gambling
The financial regulator of Indonesia, Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK), has announced the blocking of a large number of bank accounts, allegedly connected to online gambling. It is reported that a total of 33,252 accounts have been impacted.
Diane Ediana Ray, head of banking supervision at OJK, stated that this measure is part of a large-scale campaign to combat illegal online gambling. Indonesian authorities are convinced that such projects harm the country's economy and financial system.
The Indonesian regulator has not limited itself to account blockades. From January to March 2026, it also revoked licenses from six banks as part of its supervisory activities and consumer protection efforts. The banks affected include PT BPR Koperindo Jaya and PT BPR Pembangunan Nagari.
