The British government has unveiled the new stage of its Games Growth Package, dedicating £28.5 million to the UK Games Fund to aid burgeoning developers and expand studios. Alongside this, £1.5 million is committed to funding the London Games Festival over the upcoming three years, aggregating the investment total to £30 million.

The financial support is structured into three categories. The Entry category offers up to £20,000 for new studios with minimal experience. The Emergent category allocates up to £100,000 for game prototypes. Lastly, the Expansion category offers up to £250,000 to aid in completing projects and enhancing studio capabilities.

An extra £20 million is designated for the Tay Cities area, encompassing Angus, Dundee, Fife, and Perth and Kinross, to foster local talent and further development in creative technologies like games and virtual reality.

Nick Poole, head of UKIE, remarked positively on the government's initiative, stating it reflects confidence in the UK gaming industry. He highlighted the collaboration with the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport to create a package aligned with the needs of domestic studios, enhancing their potential to begin, grow, and maintain a global standing.

Michael French, who leads Games London and directs the London Games Festival, noted the festival's expansion, emphasizing its role in boosting the UK’s international reputation as a hub for video gaming excellence.

Data from industry association TIGA released today underscores the importance of PC and console development to the UK games sector, with 46% of studios focusing primarily on PC, and console games generating more sector employment.
