Sony's venture into adapting the Metal Gear Solid video game into a movie is advancing, with direction now in the hands of Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein. These directors, who are noted for their work on Final Destination: Bloodlines, have taken over from Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who was initially named director in 2014 as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Lipovsky and Stein expressed enthusiasm about the new project, stating, "Metal Gear Solid was a cinematic trailblazer that changed the landscape of video games. We are excited about the opportunity to bring Hideo Kojima's beloved characters and immersive world to the silver screen."

Sanford Panitch, President of Sony Pictures' Motion Picture Group, commented on the appointment, noting, "Zach and Adam are masterful storytellers, pioneering both visual and suspense elements. They stand out as exceptional directors and producers in the industry today. We are delighted to have them as a part of the Sony family and look forward to nurturing this thrilling franchise."

Hideo Kojima, the original creator of Metal Gear Solid, first revealed plans for turning the game into a movie during an announcement at E3 2006. However, the film project faced a prolonged halt until 2012, when ex-Marvel CEO Avi Arad became involved as a producer. Notably, in 2020, it was reported that Oscar Isaac was lined up to play the movie's lead character, Solid Snake.
