Malta to Simplify Tax System for iGaming Companies

The Maltese authorities are planning to revise the tax system for companies operating in the iGaming sector. The changes will come into effect on October 1, 2026.

The key change will involve adjustments to the VAT collection rules. Specifically, the authorities plan to clarify which companies can qualify for VAT exemption and which will be taxed, in order to avoid discrepancies in the application of the norms.

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) stated that the new measures are intended to make Malta's tax system more transparent and understandable. Additionally, they will enhance the country's attractiveness to iGaming companies and investors.

The MGA emphasized that the updated rules will only apply to services provided within Maltese territory. The regulator will later issue clarifications for companies affected by the changes.
