PlayStation 5 users who purchased in-game items for Highguard are receiving refunds from Sony. This update, originally posted on Reddit and covered by IGN, confirms that some players who participated in the game during its brief availability are being reimbursed for microtransactions automatically, even if they did not ask for it. One player, expressing satisfaction with the game, remarked they appreciated the refunds being issued as an option for those who wanted it.

The refunds are seemingly exclusive to PlayStation users at this time, notwithstanding the game's availability on other platforms like Steam and Xbox Series consoles.

According to reports, Wildlight Entertainment, the developer behind Highguard, has significantly reduced its staff. These layoffs, which began last month, continued recently as Wildlight's financial support—believed to be from TiMi Studio Group, a subsidiary of Tencent—relied on meeting specific benchmarks that were not achieved.

Highguard was introduced at The Game Awards last December but did not garner widespread acclaim. Its launch on January 26 aimed to mirror the unannounced release of Apex Legends in 2019. However, the game was permanently shut down earlier this month.
