The mobile Epic Games Store will feature tools for self-publishing games
Currently, they are only available in the PC store version.
The upcoming feature was revealed by Epic Games Store General Manager Steve Allison in an interview with PocketGamer. According to him, publishers and developers will be able to self-publish their projects in the mobile Epic Games Store starting in August 2026.
Allison believes this option will be beneficial for many companies.
"We are absolutely certain there will be demand for this. We tested the idea thoroughly before deciding to implement it. We know there is a significant group of market players interested in this," stated the General Manager.
Simultaneously, in an interview with another portal — MobileGamer — Allison admitted that the mobile Epic Games Store has yet to become as popular as Epic Games hoped. He reported that by March 2026, the store had been downloaded around 30 million times, although the company initially expected to see 100 million downloads by January 2025. Notably, the number provided by Allison is less than what Epic Games previously reported — last summer, they already announced reaching 40 million downloads. It is possible they have since adjusted their calculations or Allison shared incorrect statistics.
Allison partly blames the store's lackluster success on the policies of Android and iOS, which are not very friendly toward third-party app stores. However, he is hopeful that with the recent agreement between Epic Games and Google, the situation will improve, at least on Android.
