Goro Abe, the director behind WarioWare, has parted ways with Nintendo after serving the company for over 25 years

After nearly three decades at the company, Goro Abe, renowned for his involvement in the WarioWare series by Nintendo, has departed from the gaming giant.

Abe has taken on a new position as a professor at Osaka Electro-Communication University, where he will contribute to the freshly established Game and Social Design department.

"I retired from Nintendo at the end of February," Abe shared on X/Twitter today, as translated by machine.

"Starting in April, I will serve as a professor at Osaka Electro-Communication University, joining the new 'Game and Social Design' department," he continued. "I intend to engage in game-oriented research and development, hoping this opportunity allows me to connect with a broader audience than ever before."

His most recent directorial project was the 2023 release, WarioWare: Move It!

Abe's departure follows a report from last summer which highlighted that employees at Nintendo in Japan typically remain employed for an average of 14.4 years, while those at Nintendo of Europe average 11.1 years, in Nintendo of America 10 years, and staff in Nintendo Australia typically have a tenure of 8.5 years.
