Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubisoft, addressed the concerns of employees following the company's restructuring and associated job cuts. Emphasizing his understanding of the issues, Guillemot acknowledged that significant changes often bring about uncertainty and stress for employees.

In dialogue with Variety, he commented on the tensions arising from these changes, especially those impacting daily routines.

After announcing a restructuring, Ubisoft initiated a voluntary exit program aiming to reduce 200 positions in Paris. Recently, another office, Ubisoft Toronto, saw a reduction of 40 roles.

Guillemot expressed his dedication to engaging with the team proactively while recognizing the competitive nature of the gaming industry. According to him, delivering high-quality projects demands strong teamwork and swift action, which drives the decisions being made.

Regarding potential further layoffs, the CEO noted that additional cost-saving measures would involve selective structural adjustments. Measures will focus on disciplined workforce strategies, preferring voluntary resignations and controlled hiring.

The restructuring has drawn criticism from the French games union Solidaires Informatique, which expressed deep dissatisfaction. They have called for halting the cost-saving initiatives, promoting remote work, and increasing salaries.

Recently, over 1,200 employees participated in a strike, primarily in France and Milan, although Ubisoft recorded 538 as actively striking.

Guillemot stated the importance of transparency and open communication during these transformative times.

The appointment of Charlie Guillemot as co-CEO of Vantage Studios, a subsidiary backed by Tencent, also sparked criticism. Yves Guillemot, regarding this, affirmed that Ubisoft's origins as a family business inform their long-term growth and creative goals. He expressed confidence in Charlie and Christophe Derennes as leaders, valued for their skills and relevant expertise.

Vantage Studios has recently unveiled its new Assassin's Creed leadership team, comprising seasoned Ubisoft professionals: Martin Schelling overseeing the brand, Jean Guesdon heading content, and François de Billy focusing on production excellence.
