Sony has decided to close Bluepoint Games, recognized for its acclaimed remakes like Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus. This closure will occur next month, affecting 70 employees, according to Bloomberg.

The decision follows a recent business evaluation by Sony, which had integrated Bluepoint into its ranks in 2021. The acquisition came after years of collaboration on prominent remastered editions of notable titles such as the God of War Collection and various Uncharted installments.

An internal communication shared on Resetera included a statement from PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst, acknowledging the weight of the decision amidst difficult industry conditions, such as escalating development expenses and broader economic challenges.

"The skills and technical prowess of Bluepoint's team have brought remarkable experiences to PlayStation users," Hulst stated, expressing gratitude for their dedication. He also mentioned efforts to support affected staff in finding new roles within Sony’s network."

Despite the closure, Hulst expressed confidence in PlayStation Studios' future, emphasizing an ongoing commitment to creativity and innovation with a detailed plan outlined for the fiscal year 2026.

Before its closure, Bluepoint contributed to the development of God of War Ragnarok in 2022 and had been involved in a now-cancelled live service project, as per a GamesIndustry report. This project was part of a broader strategy shift away from live service games initiated by former CEO Jim Ryan, which was initially reported by Bloomberg.
