Spending by US consumers on video games is projected to increase by 3% to reach $62.8 billion in 2026, as reported by Circana.

In the previous year, spending on video game systems, software, and related items in the United States was $60.7 billion, experiencing a 1.4% increase from 2024.

Circana suggests that 2026 might exceed the prior record of $61.7 billion set in 2021. This predicted growth is attributed to new releases like Nintendo Switch 2, Grand Theft Auto 6, and subscription services.

The analysis anticipates the Switch 2 will sustain robust sales, with its launch in June 2025 marking it as the fastest-selling console in the US within seven months.

However, there are concerns that increasing component costs could affect hardware sales this year.

Steam Deck OLED availability has been impacted in some areas, and constraints on memory and storage could lead Sony to postpone PlayStation 6 until 2028 or 2029.

In terms of games, Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to significantly drive sales of systems, enhancements, and subscriptions, given its popularity.

Other eagerly awaited titles like Resident Evil: Requiem, Pokémon: Pokopia, and Marvel's Wolverine are also predicted to contribute to the revenue increase.

"The US video game market in 2026 offers significant opportunities and risks," stated Mat Piscatella from Circana.

"While there are challenges in hardware, a strong lineup of software and engagement in subscriptions indicate an exciting year ahead."
