RVI will develop a ten-year plan for the advancement of Russian game development
The Video Game Development Industry Organization (VGIO) has announced a new initiative. It aims to develop a document outlining a "comprehensive strategy" to support game development in Russia until 2036.
As explained by VGIO's director, Vasily Ovchinnikov, Russian authorities have recently been actively trying to regulate the industry, sometimes proposing controversial ideas. Therefore, the organization has decided to "get ahead" — they want to create a project that takes into account the interests of game companies.
In particular, VGIO plans to indicate in the strategy which benefits and preferences are needed specifically for game companies. Among the ideas they already have are the creation of a fund to support the industry, exempting companies from VAT on game sales for 10 years, and zeroing out the corporate tax for five years.
VGIO also intends to develop a unified industry standard with clearly defined terminology and ethical norms.
Once the document is ready, VGIO will present it to the authorities. The organization hopes that the state will consider it in its future projects.
This is not the first time VGIO has worked on such a plan. Recall that in 2024, it prepared a roadmap for the industry for a five-year term. Interestingly, at that same time, another gaming association, APRIORI, also developed its own roadmap for the development of the video game industry until 2030.
