Hjalmar Vikström, a co-founder of 10 Chambers, departs the company after a decade

Hjalmar Vikström, who played a pivotal role in 10 Chambers as chief development officer, announced his departure from the company he helped establish nearly 11 years ago.

Founded in Stockholm in 2015, 10 Chambers gained recognition for its work on GTFO, a cooperative first-person shooter that premiered on Early Access in 2019, transitioning to a full launch in 2021.

While Vikström did not specify the reasons behind his decision to leave, he mentioned plans to "go indie," focusing on smaller projects to prioritize his "health and family."

On LinkedIn, Vikström expressed that the last few years have been challenging, though he takes pride in their accomplishments, especially the delivery of GTFO.

"For those who know me, you know I've said this before: Making games is tough," he noted. Reflecting on the journey, Vikström feels proud of how they exceeded expectations with GTFO, from its Early Access introduction by a small team of nine to the larger-scale GTFO 1.0 release with a more extensive team. He expressed gratitude for the friendships formed and the experiences gained.

He further shared, "Moving forward, I plan to explore independent game development, work on smaller projects, and enjoy the craft while focusing on personal well-being and family life. There will be more details soon."

He concluded with anticipation for "reconnecting and working with friends in the coming years."

In addition, Tencent acquired a significant share in 10 Chambers in 2020, marking a major investment in the Swedish gaming company.
