On the evening of February 10, Mewgenics was released on Steam—a "roguelike" where players engage in cat breeding and battles. The game was developed by Edmund McMillen, creator of The Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy, together with his colleague Tyler Glaiel, co-author of The End Is Nigh.

In an interview with IGN, the creators of Mewgenics shared that their project started significantly above expectations. They proudly noted that the game took just three hours to fully recoup production costs. However, the exact figures were not disclosed.

According to McMillen, Mewgenics showcased better first-day sales than any of his previous games. The previous record holder was The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, which sold over 40,000 copies within 24 hours. Mewgenics, however, quickly surpassed this milestone, boasting 152,000 copies sold just five and a half hours after release.

Later, Glaiel added on social media that sales had exceeded 250,000 copies after a few more hours, solidifying the game's success.

Gamers generally received Mewgenics warmly. At the time of writing this news, the roguelike earned an "overwhelmingly positive" rating on Steam (97%), with its peak online player count reaching 65,962 people.

Currently, Mewgenics is available only on PC via Steam.
