HBO to produce series based on Baldur's Gate

HBO is moving ahead with a Baldur's Gate television adaptation spearheaded by Craig Mazin, known for his work on The Last of Us. According to Deadline, Mazin will act as creator, writer, and executive producer for the show. Chris Perkins, who was the head of story at Wizards of the Coast, will be offering his expertise as a consultant.
Building on the storyline of Baldur's Gate 3, the show will feature a blend of new and familiar faces dealing with the consequences following the game's events. Similar to his approach with The Last of Us, Mazin is considering involving the game's original voice cast in the project.
Although Larian Studios, responsible for creating Baldur's Gate 3, does not appear to have direct involvement, its CEO Swen Vincke stated via social media that Mazin expressed interest in visiting the studio for discussions. Vincke noted, "The endings of BG3 were crafted to serve as a launchpad for further adventures, and there are many routes they could take. I’m curious to see which ones Craig and his team will pursue."
Larian Studios is currently engaged in developing the next chapter of its Divinity franchise. Deadline also notes that the series is intended to complement the live-action Dungeon & Dragons series in The Forgotten Realms, being developed by Netflix with Shawn Levy as a producer.
Mazin expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "Having spent nearly 1,000 hours immersed in the spectacular universe of Baldur’s Gate 3, it's exhilarating to extend the narrative built by Larian and Wizards of The Coast. I am an ardent admirer of D&D and the exceptional way Swen Vincke and his talented team brought it to life. It’s a privilege to bring Baldur's Gate and its extraordinary characters to screen with utmost respect and admiration."
In support of this project, HBO's EVP head of drama programming, Francesca Orsi, remarked, "We’re delighted to further collaborate with Craig Mazin on Baldur's Gate. His enduring passion for the material, combined with his exceptional skill in crafting engaging worlds and dynamic characters, promises groundbreaking achievements."
