Take-Two Interactive has announced a halt in the development of the Borderlands 4 release for Nintendo Switch 2.

In an interview with Variety, a company spokesperson mentioned that the "difficult decision" was made to stop the Switch 2 port's development, but no specific reasons were provided.

They emphasized their commitment to providing quality post-launch content and optimizing the game further. The spokesperson also noted continued cooperation with Nintendo and excitement for upcoming releases like PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K26 for the Switch 2.

The game, originally planned for an October 3, 2025, debut on Switch 2, was postponed indefinitely by Gearbox to allow for further development and refinement.

In recent financial reports, Take-Two removed the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 from their release schedule, where it was previously marked as 'TBA'.

Take-Two's Q3 financial performance saw a 25% increase in net revenue, reaching $1.7 billion, largely driven by NBA 2K and Grand Theft Auto series. Net bookings were up by 28% to $1.76 billion.

CEO Strauss Zelnick stated, "Our impressive third quarter performance was driven by excellent results across all our labels. We're revising our fiscal 2026 net bookings forecast upwards."

The company also anticipates significant net bookings with the November 19, 2026, release of Grand Theft Auto 6, forecasting record highs for fiscal 2027, boosting financial stability and flexibility.

In a conversation with GamesIndustry.biz, Zelnick highlighted ongoing support for Borderlands 4, stating, "We're still committed to Borderlands with forthcoming content and updates, and we remain confident in the title's ongoing success."
