Playground Games has set the release timeframe for the new Fable installment, targeting an Autumn 2026 debut. This marks the series' debut on PlayStation, as the game will simultaneously be available on Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Following a teaser presented at the Xbox Developer Direct, Ralph Fulton, the general manager and game director for Fable, shared insights with Xbox Wire, discussing how the studio intends to handle the beloved series.

Fulton emphasized that this version of Fable is imagined as a reboot, rather than a sequel to the original trilogy by Lionhead Studios, to create a fresh storyline. "The influence of the original trilogy is evident," he stated, "but this is an opportunity to start anew with our own narrative."

He also mentioned, "Attempting to replicate Lionhead's approach would be fruitless. Our goal is to craft something uniquely Playground."

Fulton highlighted the importance of starting afresh, underscoring, "Our aim is to create a game that reflects Playground's unique character."

Initially set for a 2025 launch, Fable's release was postponed to 2026 to ensure the game's quality could be perfected, according to reports.

This will be the first new release in the series since the 2012 game, Fable: The Journey. The original creator, Lionhead Studios, was closed down in 2016, around the same time as Press Play Studios, as noted in sources.

Founded in 2010 in Leamington Spa, Playground Games is well-known for the Forza Horizon series. In 2018, Microsoft acquired the studio, signaling new opportunities and projects on the horizon.
