Moonshot Games, the studio behind the game Wildgate, is facing layoffs because the game hasn't achieved financial viability.

According to Dreamhaven, the parent company, increased interest following Wildgate's debut on the Epic Games Store earlier this month was insufficient to support the current team size. The studio has not disclosed the number of employees affected.

Wildgate became available in July 2025. Dreamhaven released a statement noting that the game launched on Epic Games Store in early January 2026 and received positive feedback from both new and longtime players. Despite active engagement on platforms like Discord and overall enthusiasm, the player base wasn't large enough to justify maintaining the current workforce. Consequently, reductions were necessary to ensure ongoing updates and a sustainable operational model.

Focused on delivering the next content update, the studio plans to introduce improvements and a much-anticipated progression system within the upcoming quarter.

Dreamhaven, established by former Blizzard President Mike Morhaime in 2020, oversees Moonshot Games and Secret Door, the latter of which is developing Sunderfolk. In September 2025, Dreamhaven implemented other unspecified layoffs, although projects like Wildgate and Sunderfolk continued unaffected. Morhaime commented that such decisions are difficult, impacting talented staff instrumental in shaping the company's journey.
