Russian lawmakers have proposed introducing a self-ban on in-game purchases

This initiative was put forward by the Deputy Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Vladislav Davankov, as well as deputies Sardan Avksentyev and Yaroslav Samylin.

According to RIA Novosti, the officials have already sent a letter with the proposal to the head of the RF Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev. In the document, they explained that with the help of self-imposed restrictions, "teenagers and other vulnerable groups of citizens" will be able to protect themselves from impulsive spending and the development of addiction.

The officials noted that gamers should be given the opportunity to voluntarily restrict themselves both for a specific period and permanently.

The authors of the initiative believe that the function of setting up self-restrictions on in-game purchases can be implemented on the Gosuslugi platform — in their opinion, it's “the most convenient” platform for such matters. However, they did not specify exactly how the option would work if introduced — whether it will involve sending requests to game developers or doing something else.

The RF Ministry of Digital Development has not yet commented on the proposal.
