The German gaming sector experienced significant growth from 2018 to 2024, with the number of gaming companies seeing an 81% increase.

This information comes from a recent study by the German Games Industry Association (Game), which indicates that the number of studios rose from 594 to 948 over this period.

The association credits this expansion to the implementation of Germany's national games funding initiative, which allocates €125 million yearly to the industry.

Around 87% of companies believe this initiative will enhance development opportunities, 67% expect an increase in revenue, and 63% feel it will secure jobs and boost competitiveness.

The report reveals that industry earnings surged by 22% to reach €3.78 billion between 2018 and 2024.

The workforce expanded by 20%, totaling 14,800 employees, with the representation of women in the industry rising from 25% to 30%.

Felix Falk, Game's managing director, stated, "The robust growth of the industry in recent years demonstrates the impact of favorable conditions."

He added, "The Federal Games Funding Programme is beneficial for Germany. However, the true potential has yet to be fully realized. Achieving a balanced mix of funding and tax incentives is key to unleashing Germany's capabilities as a gaming hub."

Falk concluded by highlighting the importance of meeting global standards to enhance competitiveness and vie with leading gaming locations worldwide.
