"We decided to tackle game development on nightmare difficulty," said Peter Kostenko from Divovision Games about the results of 2025 year

We continue to summarize the results of 2025 with game development teams. Next in line is an interview with Pyotr Kostenko, co-founder and programmer at Divovision Games.

How did 2025 turn out for your team? What were you able to accomplish, what are you proud of, and what did you not manage to complete?

Pyotr Kostenko, Divovision Games: The year was filled with events and hard work on all fronts: both professionally and personally. We continued to develop the early access project "Song of the Spear", which was released in 2024. Many changes had to be made, many of which benefited the project, but we couldn't exit early access in 2025. We're now in the final stretch and receiving positive feedback from players on the updates.

What conclusions did you, as a development studio, draw at the end of 2025?

Pyotr: We realized that during the development of "Song of the Spear", we inadvertently decided to tackle game development at nightmare difficulty. We made mistakes, we know where and why, but we're proud of those mistakes.

Have there been changes in your interactions with publishers/investors? Has it become easier or harder to work with them?

Pyotr: Considering that our current project is already in early access, we've had infrequent contact with publishers and investors. Unfortunately, we can't comment on the dynamics compared to last year.

"Song of the Spear"

How was the year for the niche/genre in which you work?

Pyotr: For the genre, the year was relatively calm. There were a few good projects, but nothing extraordinary. Last year was richer in tactical releases.

Of course, it's worth noting that the neighboring JRPG genre scored a mega-hit with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Numerous projects in Slavic-themed settings have been announced. We're watching them with great interest and wishing them great success.

"Song of the Spear"

What trend reinforcements or new trends in your niche/genre are you expecting in 2026?

Pyotr: We are expecting something crazy that will shake up the genre. Like some wild mix of mechanics, maybe a tactical "vampire survival battle royale".

What are the team's plans for 2026?

Pyotr: We plan to exit early access and launch the full release, then start the next project. We've been gathering concepts for our future project for six months now and considering what it might become.
