In 2025, China approved for release a quarter more games than the previous year
In just one year, the Chinese authorities issued licenses to 1,771 games.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
According to data from the National Press and Publication Administration of China (NPPA), this is the highest number of licenses since 2018. That year, 2,095 games received approval for release in the country within 12 months, but in subsequent years, the licensing rate decreased significantly. From July 2021 to April 2022, there was even a "freeze" on granting licenses in China.
Almost all of the games approved in 2025 were developed by domestic studios—1,676 in total. Meanwhile, foreign projects accounted for only 95 licenses.
Notably, among the games from international studios, licenses were granted to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Dave the Diver, Diablo IV, Destiny: Rising, Path of Exile 2, Rush Royale, and Hustle Castle.
