Vince Zampella has died—one of the creators of Call of Duty and the head of Battlefield Studios

Renowned game designer Vince Zampella has passed away in a car accident. He was 55 years old.

The death of the developer was reported by NBC Los Angeles. According to their information, the accident occurred on Sunday, December 21, in the mountains north of Los Angeles. Zampella was driving a Ferrari 296 GTS and at some point lost control, causing the car to veer off the road and crash into a concrete barrier. There was another person in the car with Zampella - they also did not survive, but their identity has not been disclosed.

Zampella was a talented game designer. He began his career in the gaming industry in the late 1990s, and in 2002, along with Jason West, founded Infinity Ward, which created the Call of Duty series. They later opened the studio Respawn Entertainment. In recent years, Zampella led Battlefield Studios, which under his leadership released the successful Battlefield 6.

Zampella contributed to numerous popular game franchises. Besides the aforementioned Call of Duty and Battlefield, he also worked on titles like Medal of Honor, Titanfall, Star Wars: Jedi, and Apex Legends.
