Following the 2026 season, Riot Games plans an extensive revamp of League of Legends, which will include a new client, enhanced visuals, and additional game modes.
Paul Bellezza, the franchise's executive producer, mentioned that these updates aim to significantly transform various aspects of League, introducing an all-in-one in-game client, revamped graphics, and changes to gameplay mechanics.
The changes are set to update the pre-game systems and runs to enhance experiences for newcomers, with the introduction of fresh game modes, champion refreshes, and ongoing balance adjustments.
Bellezza emphasized that Riot is not developing a successor to League of Legends and promised additional information to come in the following year.
Bloomberg disclosed that this revamp, internally referred to as 'League Next', is projected for release in 2027.
The publication also noted that there is a planned "reorganization of staff," as confirmed by sources. GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to Riot to clarify these changes.
Previously, Riot reduced its workforce by 11%, resulting in 530 job cuts, and closed down its publishing branch, Riot Forge.
Moreover, 32 additional roles were eliminated last October, affecting 27 positions in the League team and 5 in Riot's publishing department.
