The co-founder of The Outsiders is in the process of organizing plans for what they describe as "the 2.0 version" of the studio
The Outsiders' co-founder, David Goldfarb, has assured that the company remains active and is in the process of reorganizing for its 2.0 iteration.
Last October, David Goldfarb informed GamesIndustry.biz that Dune: Awakening was a landmark release in Funcom's lengthy game development history, being their most significant achievement. However, following this, Funcom announced layoffs as part of a restructure, which included the closure of The Outsiders, a studio led by Goldfarb.
In a fresh conversation with PC Gamer, Goldfarb admitted that sales for Metal: Hellsinger weren't sufficient to secure the studio's future, noting the challenges in surviving in the current market conditions.
Goldfarb stated, "We're assembling resources for The Outsiders' next phase. Efforts are underway to continue our endeavors."
The team is in discussions to potentially regroup. He expressed hopes of reuniting with former team members, stating, "That would be ideal."
He acknowledged the difficulty in securing financial backing presently. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic, expressing confidence that their situation will improve eventually.
