Developers of the canceled Perfect Dark remake have founded a studio within Take-Two

Formally, the new team has joined 2K Games.

Perfect Dark

Currently, little is known about the studio — even the name has not been disclosed. However, it is reported that the studio is led by former head of The Initiative, Darrell Gallagher, and former creative director of the Perfect Dark remake, Brian Horton.

Gallagher shared on his LinkedIn that the studio will be working on an unannounced ambitious game. As he stated, it is unlike any project he has ever worked on before, but he refrained from providing further details.

Microsoft canceled the Perfect Dark remake and closed the studio, The Initiative, developing it amidst mass layoffs in July 2025. As journalist Jason Schreier from Bloomberg later discovered, at one point, Take-Two attempted to save the game and buy it from Microsoft, but the deal fell through. Now, Take-Two has acquired not the remake itself, but at least its developers.
