The creators of Goat Simulator have announced the launch of a new studio called Feeble Minds
Oscar Jilsén and Mikael Mård, previously known for their work on Goat Simulator and Satisfactory, have launched a new game development studio called Feeble Minds.
This venture includes several industry veterans: Jannik Reuterberg, who composed music for Satisfactory; Johan Gustafsson, previously holding a managerial role at Paradox; Sofie Irenheim, an ex-art director from PocApp Studios; Marloes de Graaf, a former junior level designer at Coffee Stain; and Clara Lindblad Åman, who used to be an artist at The Bearded Ladies, a studio from Sweden.
Although founded in 2022, Feeble Minds is now announcing its presence and unveiling its first game, Serpent’s Gaze, described as a "four player co-op soulslike roguelike."
Reuterberg, who serves as CEO, expressed the team's enthusiasm: "We've been playing games together for many years, and felt the absence of cooperative roguelikes in the market," he stated. "Our affection for the souls formula inspired us to create the game we yearned for. As interest in roguelikes and soulslikes has grown, we’re excited to present our unique combination of both to the gaming community!"
In a LinkedIn post, CTO Gustafsson shared, "About three and a half years ago, I made the bold decision to leave Paradox Interactive. It was a difficult choice as I enjoyed my time there working with skilled and kind colleagues. However, my desire to pursue personal ambitions led me to this path. Today, I'm thrilled that the project I've devoted myself to is finally seeing the light of day on Steam, with a full launch planned for early 2026."
Coffee Stain was established in 2010, achieving significant success with Goat Simulator in 2014. In 2018, THQ Nordic acquired the studio for over $34.8 million, later merging into the Embracer Group.
Soon after, in 2017, Coffee Stain Publishing was founded, known for its success with Deep Rock Galactic from Ghost Ship Games and Valheim by Iron Gate. These titles have sold over eight million and ten million copies respectively.
The Embracer Group announced in 2024 that it would restructure into three distinct entities, with Coffee Stain becoming part of Coffee Stain & Friends. Plans are underway to spin off the Coffee Stain Group as an independent company by late 2025.
Feeble Minds isn't the sole new firm by former Coffee Stain employees; another collective, comprised of ex-staff members from both the Goat Simulator developer and Mojang, inaugurated the indie publisher Three Friends earlier this year.
