Spry Fox will become independent again as the studio's founders buy it back from Netflix

Netflix continues to divest its gaming assets, reports journalist Stephen Totilo from Game File. This time, the company has decided to sell the studio Spry Fox, a pioneer of merge games, back to its founders.

Netflix decided to sell the studio behind Triple Town

Although Netflix has not publicly announced the sale of Spry Fox, the fact of the deal was confirmed in a conversation with Totilo by the studio's founders, David Edery and Daniel Cook. They did not go into details, so it is unknown at what stage the deal currently stands or the value Netflix has placed on the team.

Despite the separation, Netflix and Spry Fox do not intend to fully cease collaboration. According to Edery and Cook, the company has promised to publish their next game—a cooperative life simulator called Spirit Crossing—on mobile devices, which is set to be released in 2026.

Spry Fox was established in 2010 and soon released the puzzle game Triple Town, which initiated the merge games genre. Later, they developed numerous other projects (including Road Not Taken, Cozy Grove, and Alphabear), but the studio is primarily known as the creator of Triple Town. In 2022, Spry Fox became part of Netflix.

It is worth noting that Spry Fox is already the third game studio Netflix has parted ways with. The company closed the previous two. In October 2024, it dissolved Team Blue, and in October 2025, it closed down Boss Fight Entertainment. However, according to Totilo, this does not mean that Netflix is stepping away from gaming. He suggests that the company is, rather, changing its gaming strategy, and these assets no longer fit into it.
