Nick Thorpe, a British journalist renowned for his coverage of retro gaming, has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 38

The world of retro gaming journalism has lost Nick Thorpe, who passed away at age 38.

Thorpe, recently serving as the features editor for Retro Gamer, a publication under the Future brand, died on December 1. His journey with the magazine began in 2013.

Darran Jones, his editor, announced the somber news on social media, stating: "It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that our colleague Nick Thorpe passed away on Monday. He was an incredibly lovely person, a talented writer and an essential part of the magazine. Our thoughts go out to all his friends and family at this difficult time. Rest in peace, friend."

The announcement prompted numerous journalists and game developers globally to express their condolences alongside Thorpe's colleagues.

Damien McFerran, a veteran journalist and co-owner of Hookshot Media, offered a heartfelt tribute on Time Extension, remarking: "The world of video games journalism is undeniably poorer for his passing."
