Magicave has formed a partnership with the UK's Observer newspaper

Magicave, a game development company, has joined forces with The Observer, a British newspaper.
Each Sunday, The Observer will feature Magicave's puzzle game, Mindset Go. Designed by Ste Curran, Magicave's creative director, the game invites players to organize shapes by identifying common traits among them.
“Mindset Go is introducing a fresh type of logic puzzle and contributes to a new gaming genre. I’ve always aspired to create games that not only reach a wide audience but also leave them satisfied with their time investment," Curran stated.
He described the game as residing "in a Venn diagram: on one side, casual games and time-fillers; on the other, intellectually engaging games. We operate right in the middle.”
Magicave's CEO, Harry Holmwood, expressed enthusiasm about their collaboration with The Observer, noting: "We’re thrilled to partner with The Observer to deliver Mindset GO! every week to a national audience of intelligent, casual gamers. If you appreciate games like Wordle, Candy Crush, or Sudoku, where strategic thinking is the path to success, this game will resonate with you.”
Incorporating games into mainstream media platforms continues to be a trend. The New York Times, for instance, acquired the popular game Wordle in 2022 for a "low seven-figure" amount, with the company later reporting that this acquisition had a significant impact on their business model.
Other notable gaming acquisitions include AppLovin's purchase of a different iteration of Wordle in 2022, and Merriam-Webster's acquisition of the word game Quordle in 2023.
In a separate development, LinkedIn has introduced games like Mini Sudoku to their platform, expanding their content offerings.
Founded in 1791, The Observer is recognized as the world’s oldest Sunday newspaper. After being under the ownership of the Guardian Media Group from 1993 to 2024, it was sold to Tortoise Media, a transaction finalized in April 2025.
