The director known for his work on Shōgun and Fallout has joined Amazon's adaptation of God of War

Frederick E.O. Toye, an Emmy Award-winning director, is set to direct the initial two episodes of Amazon's adaptation of "God of War," according to Deadline. Toye has previously directed episodes of several Amazon series, such as "Fallout," "The Boys," and "The Terminal List." His accolades include an Emmy for his contributions to the FX series "Shōgun," where he directed multiple episodes.

Toye's body of work also includes directing episodes for series like "Lost," "American Gods," "The Walking Dead," "Watchmen," "Westworld," and "Snowpiercer." He will be collaborating with Ronald D. Moore, who takes on the roles of showrunner, writer, and executive producer for the series.

Moore, who joined the project last October, stepped in after the departure of the initial showrunner, Rafe Judkins, and is teaming up with producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. The series, which is currently in pre-production in Vancouver, has been greenlit for two seasons.

The adaptation is a joint endeavor between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, along with PlayStation Productions and Moore's Tall Ship Productions. Sony Pictures Entertainment had originally unveiled the "God of War" series alongside a "Gran Turismo" film and a "Horizon" series for Netflix in 2022.

The "Gran Turismo" film debuted in 2023, while the "Horizon" series was put on hold amid reports from Rolling Stone alleging misconduct by its showrunner. Subsequently, Sony revealed plans to transform the "Horizon" project into a film, to be produced through a collaboration between Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions.

Additionally, a "Helldivers 2" film is in the works, with Fast and Furious director Justin Lin attached to direct. Lin will also serve as a producer, while the script will be crafted by Gary Dauberman, known for "It" and "Annabelle."
