In a conversation with Variety, CEO of IO Interactive, Hakan Abrak, discussed the company’s preference for internal projects, with James Bond being the sole external franchise they are developing. Having spent many years on the Hitman series, the decision to take on the James Bond IP seemed logical for the team.

“Apart from our own creations, 'Bond' is the only external intellectual property we are engaged with,” Abrak noted. “And likely the only one we'll work on that isn't rooted in our origins. It's as if our long-standing experience with the espionage genre prepared us for this perfect synergy. Yet, Hitman remains our core product, beloved throughout our company’s history.”

Abrak confirmed that another Hitman installment is planned, following the co-op mode, Stone & Knight, announced last June. He also elaborated on the performance of Hitman: World of Assassination, reiterating comments made previously to GI.biz.

“Hitman continues to thrive,” stated Abrak. “Over the past decade, the World of Assassination has grown immensely. The series has attracted over 85 million players, selling more than 25 million copies. Month after month, more than a million players actively engage with Hitman, which is quite remarkable given its longevity.”

As of early 2025, the World of Assassination drew over 75 million players, marking a 22% growth in its audience within 11 months.

IO Interactive is preparing to release its James Bond game, 007: First Light, on March 27, 2026.
