Paradox Interactive will write off almost the entire budget for Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2
The catalyst was the game’s sales being lower than expected.
Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2
In a message to investors, Paradox Interactive announced that it had initially planned to amortize SEK 346 million (USD 36.4 million) by the end of the year. However, it will now additionally write off SEK 355 million (USD 37.4 million) as capitalized development costs for Bloodlines 2.
After these transactions, only SEK 40 million (USD 4.2 million) remain on the publisher’s balance sheet related to the production costs of Bloodlines 2.
Paradox Interactive emphasized that it does not blame the developers for Bloodlines 2's failure and takes full responsibility. As the company explained, it typically does not develop action RPGs, which led to a lack of expertise for accurately forecasting sales.
Now, Paradox Interactive plans to focus on its core genres—strategy and management games. It will also consider how to better develop the World of Darkness franchise, to which Bloodlines 2 belongs, in the future.
