The co-creator of Zombies, Run! and The Walk bought back the games for a six-figure sum
The exact size of the deal is not disclosed.
Zombies, Run!
The writer Naomi Alderman, who worked on the plot for both games, announced the purchase on the official Zombies, Run! website. She later shared additional details in comments to the portals MobileGamer and The Verge.
Alderman reported that she repurchased the games from the blockchain company OliveX. Since 2021, OliveX includes the studio Six to Start, which collaborated with the writer to develop Zombies, Run! and The Walk. The studio itself remains under OliveX's wing, and its future is unclear. It's worth noting that at the beginning of the year, Six to Start underwent restructuring and parted with a significant number of employees.
Alderman added that she and her team will continue to develop at least Zombies, Run!. For example, new episodes are already planned for the game. However, she said nothing about the future of The Walk.
Both Zombies, Run! and The Walk are mobile fitness games released in the mid-2010s. Zombies, Run! at one time performed excellently on Kickstarter, raising $72.6 thousand with a goal of $12.5 thousand—one of the first successful campaigns on the platform among iOS games. Meanwhile, The Walk was partially funded by the UK Department of Health.
