Initially, Avalanche Studios Group announced plans to close the Liverpool branch at the end of September, shortly after the "freezing" of the cooperative action game Contraband. However, as the studio explained in a statement regarding the closure, it couldn't be done immediately. UK legislation required them to first consult with employees and agree on severance terms. As a result, the process stretched over nearly two months.
Avalanche Studios Group promised to provide support to all the dismissed employees.
The Liverpool studio is the third that Avalanche Studios Group has closed in the past year and a half. In the summer of 2024, they also disbanded studios in New York and Montreal. Now they only have branches left in Stockholm and Malmö.
