Ubisoft: It has become more difficult for new games to attract an audience because gamers' behavior has changed
The company shared its opinion in a report for the British regulator.
Anno 117: Pax Romana
In the document, Ubisoft stated that gamers currently play fewer games than in the past, but they spend more time on the games they already choose. As a result, competition for audience attention has intensified in the market. Although Ubisoft acknowledged that some new releases still achieve success without issues, it considers this to be an exception.
Ubisoft also added that the traditional premium sales model for games priced at $60-70 has been performing poorly. As the company noted, gamers are increasingly favoring service-based games, free-to-play games, and subscriptions that grant access to a large catalog of projects, whereas physical disc sales are declining.
Amidst all of this, Ubisoft forecasts a decrease in physical sales of its own games in the current fiscal year, and consequently, a drop in revenue. At least in the United Kingdom.
