Roblox unveils the next stage of its intellectual property licensing platform

Roblox has advanced its licensing platform, initially unveiled earlier this year, by transforming its license manager into a self-serve system for intellectual property holders.
With this update, eligible IP holders are empowered to offer their intellectual properties for use on Roblox, while creators have the opportunity to apply for adapting experiences that utilize these IPs.
The platform holder emphasizes that this democratization will enhance diversity and flexibility on the platform, reinforcing Roblox as a prime space for global IP and creative endeavors.
The licensing manager initially launched with partners like Sega, Netflix, Lionsgate, and Kodansha. Roblox is now extending an invitation to all qualifying IP holders to join the initiative.
Since its introduction in July, the platform has processed over 1,500 license requests from creators eager to leverage the available IPs. Experiences crafted from franchises such as Squid Game, Twilight, Saw, Blue Lock, and Now You See Me have already emerged.
Particularly notable is The Squid Game by Mr Ducky Studio, which has accumulated over 1.6 million favorites, and Pocket Lobster's Blue Lock: Rivals, which boasts four billion visits.
In a conversation with Greg Hartrell, senior director of product management at Roblox, the plans for enabling users to create experiences using various IPs were detailed. Hartrell highlighted that IP holders maintain control, setting their eligibility criteria and approving which projects receive licensing.
