In Russia, they ultimately won't implement a GOST standard for video games

Rosstandart has denied the claims about plans to develop a national standard with criteria for video game classification. Such reports emerged in mid-October.

The agency elaborated on the situation in response to an inquiry from State Duma Deputy Anton Gorelkin. In a letter to him, the head of Rosstandart, Anton Shalaev, clarified that while a gaming GOST is indeed being prepared, at least in its current version, it pertains not to video games but exclusively to children's toys.

According to Shalaev, Roskachestvo began working on the GOST last year, and since then, it has undergone many changes. Whether video games were mentioned in previous drafts of the GOST was not specified in the letter.

The initial announcement of the GOST’s development was made by Rosstandart representative Anastasia Kavrusova during a speech in the State Duma. Her presentation implied that the new national standard would primarily focus on visual content, examining video games and toys for violent scenes.
