A team of enthusiasts is looking for 3D specialists and an investor to implement a project inspired by "At the Mountains of Madness" by H.P. Lovecraft

New post in the "Looking for Investor/Publisher" section. This time it's dedicated to a horror game in the spirit of Amnesia, crafted by a team of enthusiasts. It's called Aeon of Madness.

If you're an indie developer, ready to talk about your project, and also seeking investments, a publisher, or someone to join your team, be sure to contact us in the section on Telegram — https://t.me/overwordly.

The game was introduced by Ivan Mironov, the producer of Aeon of Madness.

About the Team

The team was formed in 2024 and consists of 10 members. Our core is made up of students from the Saint Petersburg State Institute of Film and Television. I, Ivan Mironov (a fifth-year student), am leading the project, with Kirill Zhurchko (a fourth-year student) as the game designer. Our team includes key specialists: a programmer, artists, sound designers, and writers. This project is both our course and diploma project.

We believe that we can create something truly unique—a game that will immerse players in an atmosphere of chilling horror and make them feel on the brink of madness.

About the Project

Our project is a psychological horror based on H.P. Lovecraft's novel "At the Mountains of Madness." It's the only game project specifically dedicated to this book, rather than the Lovecraft universe as a whole.

Backstory: The idea was born from our passion for Lovecraft's work. We wanted to translate the unique atmosphere of his novel—the journey into the unknown where reality intertwines with nightmare—into an interactive format, allowing players not just to read about horror, but to feel it themselves.

Synopsis: Present day. A failed journalist, led by a voice from his dreams, investigates the circumstances surrounding the demise of an old expedition. His investigation catches the attention of a wealthy sponsor, who organizes a new expedition to the icy peaks. Upon arrival, they discover an entrance to ancient catacombs and the remains of the previous group's camp. As they explore, people begin to disappear and lose their sanity, and the main character must confront the horrors of the ancient city, uncover a shocking truth about his origins, and participate in deciding the world's fate.

Development Status: The project is in the early stages of production. We are actively working on the demo version, concept art, and testing key mechanics. Simultaneously, the script is being written.

About the Gameplay/Mechanics

In short, the game can be described as a blend of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Chants of Sennaar.

The narrative will be divided into days. Players will explore various locations, from caves and catacombs to an ancient elder city, deciphering ancient bas-reliefs. When in darkness or upon contact with monsters, the character will accumulate fear, which can be alleviated by various light sources and medication. If too much fear accumulates, the day will end.

The ending of the game will depend on the number of bas-reliefs deciphered throughout the game, located in various areas of the levels. If enough are deciphered and the language of the ancient race is understood, a good ending will be achieved.

Throughout the game, players will also make various choices during dialogues, which will have different consequences for the story.

About the Target Audience

We are targeting an adult audience (18+), fans of Lovecraftian horrors, and narrative-driven games. Our closest audience benchmarks are projects like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, SOMA, The Shore, and Conarium.

About the Business Model

We plan to release the game under a premium model on digital distribution platforms (Steam, VK Play, and others).

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for 3D modelers to join the team to create environments. This includes various natural elements (snow, ice, stone) as well as ancient stone structures with "peculiar geometry" as mentioned in the book.

We need a 3D animator who can work on the animation of animals and specific organisms with a large number of limbs.

We are seeking investors/publishers willing to support our project. The expected investment amount is 350 thousand rubles. From the partner, we also expect expertise in marketing and distribution.

How the Funds Will Be Used

The funds will be directed towards:

  • Technical equipment (a powerful computer for the programmer, interactive displays for the artists);
  • Technology (Motion Capture equipment);
  • Sound (studio rental for recording and voice acting, payment for professional actors);
  • Salaries;
  • Game promotion.
