BioWare affirms that the next installment in the Mass Effect series continues to be under development and emphasizes its ongoing dedication to the franchise

BioWare has confirmed that the upcoming Mass Effect installment remains under development, emphasizing their and parent company Electronic Arts' dedication to expanding the narrative of this universe.

In a recent blog post, Mass Effect executive producer Mike Gamble updated fans on the series, expressing that the team is fully focused on the project. "We have a vast universe to explore, numerous features to design, and many romantic storylines to develop," he stated.

He added, "We're thrilled about what we're crafting and assure you that it will be exciting to share when the time comes."

Earlier this year, BioWare underwent a strategic overhaul of its operations, which led to job reductions and some staff being reassigned as noted in reports.

The company noted that the team developing the new Mass Effect entry didn't need full studio support. BioWare general manager Gary McKay commented, "We have remarkable talent at BioWare, and we've been carefully aligning our staff with open positions across EA that match their skills."

Additionally, Gamble shared details about the Mass Effect TV series by Amazon, approved in 2024. He mentioned that the writers' room is actively developing the series, ensuring its alignment with the Mass Effect lore and connection to the new game.

"The series will introduce a fresh narrative set in the universe's timeline after the original trilogy, rather than revisiting Commander Shepard's tale," he explained.

The series' team includes Star Trek Beyond's Doug Jung as showrunner with Daniel Casey of Fast and Furious 9 fame. Gamble will also be contributing as an executive producer.

These developments follow the acquisition announcement of EA for $55 billion in September, led by a consortium including Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners, as reported previously.
