The release of GTA 6 has been postponed to November 19, 2026, citing the need for "additional polish"
GTA 6 has been postponed by Take-Two Interactive again, shifting what was anticipated to be the most significant launch of next year by half a year to November 19, 2026. This update emerged in the firm's financial report, stating that this extension allows the development team additional time to complete the game with the high standards of quality that fans expect. The company reassures its support for Rockstar, expressing confidence in delivering an unparalleled entertainment experience.
Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two Interactive's CEO, in a GamesIndustry.biz dialogue, did not promise that this would be the absolute final adjustment but stated, "we're confident in the date, that's why we set it."
He noted, "We're striving hard to offer an extraordinary interactive entertainment experience. Rockstar shares our vision, and we are optimistic about the progress."
"Our broader company, including 2K and our mobile sector, sometimes requires additional time to refine a title to ensure it launches in prime condition. Importantly, it will still be released within the same fiscal year as initially planned," Zelnick added.
The game faced its first deferment after a December 2023 unveiling targeted for 2025 release. In May, Rockstar postponed the release to May 26, 2026. Zelnick informed IGN that historically, the company has successfully met dates once set.
If the current timeline is maintained, GTA 6 will make its debut 13 years subsequent to its predecessor, which was released in September 2013.
Other game developers and publishers that had initially planned to adjust significant launches away from GTA’s timing will need to reschedule once more, particularly for the crucial Q4 period.
An interview with Zelnick conducted by Gamesindustry.biz regarding the postponement and additional financial updates from the company will be posted soon.
The article has been updated to change GTA 6's release date from November 26 to November 19.
