Rockstar Games: Fired developers leaked confidential information online

Last week, it was reported that Rockstar Games had dismissed about 30-40 employees. It was initially mentioned that they had blatantly violated discipline, but no further official details were provided. Now, the company has explained in a comment to Bloomberg that the reason for the layoffs was due to leaks.

GTA VI

According to Rockstar Games, the dismissed employees had shared its confidential information on a public forum. Whether this information pertained to GTA VI or other data was not specified. Regardless, the company's policy prohibits leaking internal secrets online, necessitating Rockstar Games to take action.

Rockstar Games also emphasized that the layoffs were not linked to the developers' intent to form a union. The British union organization, Independent Workers Union of Great Britain, had previously claimed otherwise, insisting that Rockstar Games employees lost their jobs specifically because they decided to establish their own labor union.

As a reminder, Rockstar Games has become more stringent about security following a breach in 2022, when a large amount of GTA VI materials leaked online.
