Update, November 6, 2025: Rockstar recently stated that employees dismissed last week were terminated due to the sharing of "confidential information," denying any link to unionization efforts.

According to a spokesperson who spoke with Bloomberg, "A few individuals engaged in the dissemination and discussion of confidential material publicly, breaching our policy." This action was asserted to be unrelated to workers’ union rights.

In reaction, Alex Marshall, head of the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB), criticized Rockstar, suggesting that the company fears employees discussing their rights secretly in pursuit of a fairer workplace.

He emphasized that management’s focus is on halting union efforts rather than the development progress of Grand Theft Auto 6, blaming them for targeting crucial contributors to the game’s production.

Original story, November 3, 2025: The IWGB accused Rockstar of anti-union tactics following reports that 30 to 40 staff members were laid off on October 30.

Bloomberg reported that the workers affected were involved in or organizing union activities at Rockstar.

"Rockstar executed an overt act of union busting unprecedented in the gaming sector's history," declared Alex Marshall on the union’s web platform.

Marshall criticized what he viewed as Rockstar’s disregard for legal and worker rights, calling it disrespectful to both employees and fans. Despite this, he stated the Rockstar Union would persist in striving for improved working conditions and respect while continuing their creative contributions.

However, Take Two, Rockstar’s parent entity, countered the allegations, asserting the dismissals were based solely on "gross misconduct." The company expressed support for Rockstar’s strategies and pursuits.

Alan Lewis, Take Two’s global corporate communications leader, remarked to PC Gamer that their workplace culture is built on collaboration, quality, and compassion. He reaffirmed their commitment to Rockstar's vision, noting that the terminations were related to severe misconduct alone.
