The producer of the first Diablo has raised $500,000 to develop a vertical slice of a game based on Lovecraft

Lunacy Games studio, founded by Blizzard veteran Bill Roper, has received an investment. Big Bang Accelerator invested half a million dollars into it.

Innsmouth Mysteries

These funds will be used by Lunacy Games to develop Innsmouth Mysteries—a cooperative RPG with elements of horror and extraction games, whose storyline is inspired by Howard Lovecraft’s novella "The Shadow over Innsmouth." Specifically, the investment will be used to create a vertical slice of the game. Roper hopes that having a completed slice will make it easier for his studio to attract additional investments to refine and expand the full title in the future.

In an interview with GamesBeat, Roper admitted that securing "any sort of funding" was a challenge. Lunacy Games began searching for investors back in 2022, but soon the gaming industry faced a crisis, which worsened market sentiments. Fortunately, the search was ultimately successful.

Even approximate release dates for Innsmouth Mysteries are currently unknown.

At present, Lunacy Games has a team of 13 people. Besides Innsmouth Mysteries, the studio is working on two other games—an RPG-survival game called Skinwalkers and the action RPG Hellgate: Redemption.
