Industry experts view a "massive opportunity" for Roblox to expand its growth on gaming consoles
Recent insights from Newzoo in collaboration with Gamefam, a native Roblox studio, reveal that although 80% of Roblox's daily users primarily access the game via mobile, there is notable growth in its usage across other platforms.
Since its launch on PlayStation in October 2023, Roblox has constituted about 3% of the platform's total gaming time, amassing 374 million hours in the second quarter of 2025, according to the data firm.
Joe Ferencz, CEO and founder of Gamefam, shared with GamesIndustry.biz that there is a significant potential for Roblox's expansion on consoles.
Roblox ranked as the third most played game on PlayStation in September 2025, yet consoles still represent a small portion of Roblox's overall playtime across all devices.
"This highlights the disparity caused by the significantly larger mobile user base," Ferencz explains, suggesting that mobile will likely continue to dominate. Still, he sees potential in making the platform more appealing to console gamers with certain adjustments.
"Console gamers look for high-quality visuals, which justify their investment in consoles. By enhancing visuals with low latency and high frame rates, Roblox could attract more console gamers," he stated.
Newzoo's study noted that the fastest-growing group of Roblox users was individuals over 13 years old, with a 54% year-over-year increase in Q2 2025, compared to a 22% growth among younger users.
Ferencz suggested that enhancing game design complexity and graphics diversity will help Roblox retain users as they age, already a growing trend with advancing technology.
For developers, Newzoo and Gamefam indicate the key to thriving on Roblox is cultural relevance over traditional game polish.
Ferencz observed, "The developer landscape is evolving rapidly, but AAA developers might not easily succeed on Roblox."
"Many successful games on the platform are created by small teams, sometimes teenagers, within weeks. AAA studios have no inherent advantage over them," he added.
Tianyi Gu, market analysis manager at Newzoo, noted that Roblox is a fertile ground for nurturing new and existing intellectual properties, partnering with firms like Sega and Paramount Games Studio to create branded experiences.
"Brands use Roblox to stay relevant, while creator-driven successes like Adopt Me and Brookhaven turn into independent franchises," Gu highlighted.
"This combination of brand-centric and creator-led content is fueling Roblox's growth, enhancing engagement, and maintaining investment from both players and partners."
