The inaugural Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show attracted over 206,000 attendees
The first edition of Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show attracted 206,159 attendees from 95 different countries over four days.
Held from October 16 to October 19 at Bangkok's Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, it set new attendance records for both Gamescom Asia and Thailand Game Show.
The merger of these two events earlier this year aimed to "solidify Thailand's position as a premier gaming hub in the Asian region," according to the organizers.
This year, the business area featured 5,590 industry professionals representing 81 countries and had 71 speakers across four stages.
A total of 294 exhibitors and country pavilions participated, showcasing developers such as Bandai Namco, Capcom, HoYoverse, Konami, Sega, Ubisoft, Tencent, The Pokémon Company, and Xbox.
The indie section displayed 62 titles, with more than 200 playable games available in both business and entertainment zones.
At the Thailand Game Awards, Sandfall Interactive's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was the recipient of four awards, while Bit Egg Inc.'s Lost and Found Co. received the Thai Game Award.
Glen Schofield, a seasoned game designer known for his work on titles like Dead Space, Call of Duty, and The Callisto Protocol, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Organizers stated, "This partnership [between Gamescom Asia and TGS] celebrates creativity, innovation, and community on a global scale."
Under the theme 'World of Gaming,' the aim is to enhance the presence of games and talent from Southeast Asia on an international level, while offering exceptional experiences to local audiences, thereby establishing Thailand as a Global Gaming Hub.
Thailand's Minister of Commerce, Suphajee Suthumpun, expressed admiration for both Thai and international game developers who incorporate Thailand's landscapes and characters into their games.
"This represents true soft power, allowing global players to experience Thai identity within the gaming universe," Minister Suthumpun noted. "Throughout the event, business negotiations generated over 1.22 billion THB ($37.2 million) in economic value, highlighting Thailand's vast potential on the international stage."
Gamescom Asia x TGS is scheduled to return next year from October 29 to November 1.
