After a nine-year tenure, Tero Virtala has stepped down from his position as CEO of Remedy.
Tero Virtala has resigned from his position as CEO of Remedy, effective immediately.
Appointed in 2016, Virtala will remain with the company during a transition period as they search for a new CEO. Markus Mäki, Remedy's co-founder and chief product officer, has been appointed as interim CEO starting October 22.
Mäki, who has served on the board since 1995 and is the current board chairman, will temporarily step into the CEO role. Meanwhile, Henri Österlund, a board member since 2017, will assume the position of board chairman.
"I wish to extend my gratitude to Tero Virtala for his significant role at Remedy since 2016," Mäki stated. "I am thankful for our collaboration and wish him the very best moving forward."
Recently, Remedy shared that it would revise its 2025 financial projections due to "weak sales" of its first multiplayer game, FBC Firebreak.
The company reported a non-cash impairment of €14.9 million, covering the costs of developing the game along with its publishing and distribution rights.
Although Remedy initially anticipated both revenue and operating profit growth, they now expect a decline in operating profit as Firebreak did not achieve "internal targets."
