Twelve game studios from Wales have received $775,000 in funding aimed at assisting them in creating "innovative games and immersive experiences"
Twelve gaming studios based in Wales have collectively been granted more than £580,000, equivalent to roughly $775,000, to assist in the creation of groundbreaking video games and immersive experiences intended for market release.
Encompassing themes from rural mountain quests to virtual reality experiences rooted in Welsh folklore, this funding has been allocated by Creative Wales’ Games Development Fund. As one of several initiatives by Creative Wales, this fund aims to stimulate innovative ideas with solid market strategies, intending to support businesses in achieving sustainable growth and prolonged commercial success.
Gaz Thomas from Rarebit Studios noted that the Development Fund is facilitating the studio's expansion and the launch of a bold new Solitaire.io project. He remarked on his pride in crafting world-class games in North Wales, attributing further advancement to the support from Creative Wales.
Will Humphrey of Sugar Creative in Cardiff expressed that the backing from Creative Wales has significantly impacted their operations. This funding has facilitated the acceleration of a project in collaboration with Hat Trick Productions and HTM Television, allowing them to expand their ambitions. Humphrey emphasized that the funding represents more than financial help; it's an endorsement of their vision and recognition of Wales as a center for advanced gaming innovation.
Launched earlier this year, the Games Scale Up Fund for Wales is a first for the devolved nation in the UK. It emerged as part of an initiative by Creative Wales and the UK Games Fund, awarding approximately $1.15 million (£850,000) to six independent Welsh game developers.
