The teams behind Blizzard's Hearthstone and Warcraft Rumble have overwhelmingly decided to join forces with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) union.

This decision involves over 100 team members, encompassing software engineers, designers, artists, quality assurance experts, and production staff.

These workers will now be part of CWA Local 9510, located in Irvine, California, and their unionization has been acknowledged by Microsoft.

"As we push for protections against layoffs, safeguard remote work arrangements, or address pay discrepancies, the challenges we encounter are affecting our ability to produce top-notch work," stated Uriah Voth, a senior 2D artist and member of the organizing committee.

"By organizing, we have a chance to assert our rights and tackle the unstable and inequitable conditions affecting us."

The CWA notes that this unit took cues from the unionization of over 500 World of Warcraft staff that occurred in July last year.

Jason Justice, president of CWA Local 9510, remarked, "The Hearthstone team's collective action is a testament to how creativity can be amplified with cooperative strength."

"This unionization decision underscores that crafting exceptional games depends on treating their creators with respect."

The CWA has seen the membership of more than 1,900 Blizzard employees, with members from its Platform and Technology, Story and Franchise Development teams, along with professionals from Diablo and Overwatch.

The recent addition to the union was from the Platform and Technology unit, which revealed their unionization last week on October 15.

Currently, close to 3,000 individuals across Microsoft-owned gaming studios have joined the CWA.

This group encompasses employees from Raven Software, who have recently lodged a complaint against their studio, Activision, and Microsoft for allegedly avoiding negotiations.
